Farm Visits at Saddlescombe Farm

Moving sheepWe love sharing Saddlescombe Farm and what we get to do with our visitors. The farm provides a fantastic learning resource for schools and other interest groups.

A typical farm visit would certainly include a farm walk or trailer ride to experience some of the views, sights and smells of a downland farm. Then depending on the time of year (and weather!), activities could include -

  • Watching our sheep dog Belle round up and move the sheep (all year)
  • Handling the sheep and feeling their fleeces/wool (all year)
  • Maybe seeing a lamb being born (April to May)
  • Bottle feeding the lambs (April to May)
  • Feeding the sheep (March to May)
  • Strawing up the sheep’s beds (April to May)
  • Shearing (June/July) Scrub clearance (winter months)
  • Hedge laying (winter months)
